Yas Clinic Khalifa City and Emirates Thalassemia Society sign MoU to strengthen patient support

Yas Clinic Khalifa City and Emirates Thalassemia Society sign MoU to strengthen patient support

(ABU DHABI) - Yas Clinic Khalifa City and the Emirates Thalassemia Society (ETS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen support for people living with thalassemia in the UAE, with a focus on healthcare access, patient and family support, and public awareness.

Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Yas Clinic Khalifa City, and Dr. Khaled Khoury, General Manager of ETS, signed the agreement on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit 2026. Abdul Baset Merdas, Vice Chairman of ETS, attended the signing.

Under the agreement, the two organizations plan to collaborate on initiatives aimed at improving access to healthcare services, supporting patients and their families, and delivering educational and awareness activities for healthcare professionals and the wider community. The partnership will bring together Yas Clinic’s clinical services and ETS’s experience in patient advocacy and community engagement.

Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi said continuity of care and access to appropriate medical services are important considerations for people managing thalassemia, a long-term condition that can require ongoing medical attention.

“Quality healthcare means delivering the right clinical care while recognizing the practical realities that patients and their families face when managing a long-term condition,” she said. “Through our partnership with the Emirates Thalassemia Society, we aim to translate this understanding into practical support for patients, combining Yas Clinic’s healthcare services with ETS’s close connection to the thalassemia community.”

Dr. Khaled Khouri said collaboration between healthcare institutions and patient-support organizations could help address the medical and wider support needs of people living with thalassemia.

“Our partnership with Yas Clinic Khalifa City represents an important step towards improving patients’ access to appropriate healthcare services, advancing awareness initiatives, and providing the necessary support to patients and their families,” he said.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between the two organizations. Further details on specific initiatives, implementation timelines, and measurable outcomes were not provided in the announcement.
