King’s College London –
Jeddah launches a
humanitarian program in
partnership with the Hassan
Abbas Sharbatly Charity
Foundation
(JEDDAH)
-
Saudi Arabia’s healthcare
sector has witnessed a
notable humanitarian
initiative represented in
the signing of a cooperation
agreement between
King’s College Hospital
London – Jeddah and the
Hassan Abbas Sharbatly
Charity Foundation. The
agreement aims to provide
comprehensive medical care
for patients who are unable
to afford treatment, as part
of a strategic step that
reflects the hospital’s
vision to enhance its
community role and expand
its humanitarian impact by
supporting the most
vulnerable groups across
several advanced medical
specialties.
This
initiative comes as part of
a sustainable social
responsibility program
designed to offer
specialized medical services
to cases that cannot bear
the cost of care, within a
model that integrates the
hospital’s global medical
expertise with the
long-standing humanitarian
mission of the Foundation,
established in 1950. Over
the decades, the Foundation
has supported thousands of
medical, educational, and
social cases.
Advanced Care
The
agreement aims to provide
comprehensive medical care
for cases referred by the
Hassan Abbas Sharbatly
Charity Foundation, in
addition to some patients at
the hospital with very low
income. The care will be
provided across a set of
highly specialized medical
fields considered among the
most costly and complex,
including oncology,
cardiology, nephrology,
orthopedics, and
ophthalmology (medical cases
only).
The program
includes an integrated
system of screening,
diagnosis, treatment,
surgeries, and medications,
ensuring a complete
treatment journey that meets
the urgent needs of
patients.
This
collaboration reflects a new
approach to transforming
social responsibility into a
tangible health impact by
providing advanced care
based on the British
expertise of the hospital
and the work of specialized
medical teams who operate
according to the highest
international standards to
ensure the quality of
service delivered to
beneficiaries.
Humanitarian Collaboration
The initial phase of the
program witnessed joint
coordination between the
hospital’s social services
department and the
Foundation for Community
Service to assess cases
based on precise criteria,
ensuring that support
reaches those who truly need
it, with a focus on
illnesses that require
long-term care or
specialized interventions.
The collaboration
enables the hospital to
directly receive referred
cases while also allowing
underprivileged walk-in
patients to request support
through a clear mechanism
that takes into account the
social and medical
circumstances of each case.
This model reflects the
spirit of community
partnership between the
private medical sector and
charitable organizations,
contributing to enhancing
the quality of life,
alleviating the healthcare
and financial burden on
patients’ families, and
ensuring timely access to
advanced care for those who
need it most.
Joint
Commitment
Dr. Emad Sagr,
Chief Medical Officer of
King’s College Hospital –
Jeddah, expressed his pride
in launching the program,
noting that the partnership
represents an extension of
the hospital’s values and
mission in providing
humanitarian care that goes
beyond traditional medical
services. He affirmed that
supporting patients in need
is a professional and
ethical duty, and that the
initiative reflects the
hospital’s commitment to
offering world-class care to
the most vulnerable cases
based on its medical
expertise and advanced
practices.
For his
part, Advisor Abdullatif Al
Nugali, General Supervisor
of the Hassan Abbas
Sharbatly Charity
Foundation, affirmed that
the agreement comes as part
of the Foundation’s ongoing
efforts to support the
healthcare sector and enable
patients in need to access
high-quality medical
services. He emphasized the
Foundation’s pride in
collaborating with King’s
College London Hospital –
Jeddah, one of the leading
specialized medical centers,
considering the initiative a
key addition to the
Foundation’s programs aimed
at empowering
underprivileged patients and
creating a direct and
sustainable impact on the
lives of beneficiaries and
their families.
A
Future Vision
The program
represents a pivotal step
toward enhancing integration
between the medical sector
and charitable institutions
within a vision that aims to
expand access to treatment,
achieve health equity, and
strengthen social
responsibility within the
private sector, in alignment
with Saudi Vision 2030 goals
to improve quality of life
and enable patients to
obtain specialized care
without financial barriers.
This partnership also
marks the beginning of a
broader developmental
pathway, as work is underway
to study additional
initiatives targeting
chronic and critical
illnesses, contributing to
strengthening sustainable
humanitarian impact and
ensuring that advanced
healthcare remains
accessible to the most
vulnerable on a continuous
and effective basis.
