Bupa Arabia strengthens women’s empowerment: Over 50 female leaders and 43% of the workforce

(JEDDAH) - At a time when the Kingdom continues to move steadily toward reinforcing the role of women as active partners in economic development, indicators of women’s presence in leadership and decision-making positions continue to rise. This reflects a qualitative transformation in the labor market structure and supports sustainable growth pathways.

Bupa Arabia for Cooperative Insurance has made notable progress on women’s empowerment indicators in its workplace, with women representing 43% of the total workforce and more than 50 women holding leadership roles. This reflects the growing presence of female talent in leadership and decision-making roles.

Additionally, six women serve on the Board, contributing to shaping the company’s strategic direction. At the same time, female promotions accounted for 41% of total promotions, marking the highest rate recorded by the company in its history.

Female Leadership

These indicators come as part of a comprehensive institutional strategy for diversity, equity, and inclusion, built on three main pillars: strengthening inclusive leadership, developing Diverse Practices, and fostering an inclusive culture. This approach supports women’s participation across different leadership levels and aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to increase women’s economic participation.

Leadership Development

As part of preparing future leaders, Bupa Arabia implements a range of development programs aimed at preparing female leaders and enhancing women’s participation in decision-making positions. These include leadership development programs, mentoring and professional guidance initiatives, in addition to integrating female talent within Succession Planning Strategies to ensure the sustainability of institutional leadership.

These initiatives have contributed to expanding the pool of future leaders, with 48% of female employees participating in leadership development programs, while women represent 32% of candidates within Succession Planning Strategies, reflecting the company’s direction to transform women’s empowerment into an operational framework based on measurable policies and programs.

Professional Advancement

At the workplace level, the company has achieved significant progress in women’s professional development indicators. The Female Engagement Score reached 84 points, reflecting a high level of engagement and interaction within the work environment.

Moreover, more than 500 female employees have benefited from the Coaching & Mentoring Programs over the past three years, contributing to strengthening women’s presence in leadership positions and building a broader base of qualified female talent.

Supportive Environment

Regarding institutional practices that support women, Bupa Arabia has implemented a package of empowering policies and benefits designed to provide an integrated work environment that supports female employees throughout different stages of their professional lives.

These include health and wellbeing programs, Inclusive Facilities including Daycare, dedicated Nursing Rooms, and Fitness Centers, all of which contribute to achieving a healthy balance between professional and personal life.

Workplace Equity

The company also continues to promote workplace equity by maintaining a gender pay gap of less than 5%, in line with global best practices.

Women also represent 50% of new hires within the company, while the Female Retention Rate reached 93%, reflecting the stability of female talent and their continued contribution to the company’s institutional growth.

Investing in Female Talent

In this context, Tariq Al-Amoudi, Chief Human Resources Officer at Bupa Arabia, said: “Investing in female talent represents a fundamental pillar in enhancing innovation and supporting institutional sustainability. Women’s participation in leadership and decision-making roles contributes to building more diverse work environments capable of achieving competitive growth, reflecting their active role in developing communities and driving innovation across various sectors.”

He added: “At Bupa Arabia, we continue to develop our leadership programs and empowerment initiatives to ensure equal opportunities for professional growth and development, strengthen women’s presence in decision-making positions, and enable them to contribute to shaping the future of the healthcare sector. This aligns with the objectives of Vision 2030 to support women’s economic participation and achieve sustainable economic and social development.”

Inclusive Culture

To further embed a corporate culture based on diversity and inclusion, Bupa Arabia implements a variety of qualitative activities and initiatives involving thousands of employees throughout the year, reinforcing the spirit of participation and inclusion within the workplace.

These efforts also include publishing periodic content on diversity concepts, launching inspirational professional storytelling programs, and introducing the “Global Diversity Champions” program aimed at raising awareness of inclusive workplace culture.

These efforts were recognized with the 2025 CIPD Middle East Awards for the Most Impactful Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Programs.

Sustainable Growth

The expanding participation of women within Bupa Arabia reflects an institutional direction that promotes diversity and inclusion as key drivers of organizational growth, through the development of leadership programs and empowerment initiatives that support attracting and developing female talent.

This approach also highlights the importance of investing in female human capital as a key factor in enhancing innovation, increasing productivity, and building a balanced work environment aligned with the requirements of modern institutions—ultimately contributing to achieving sustainable development goals and improving quality of life within the national economic ecosystem.
