UAE Down Syndrome Association hails role of BinSina Pharmacy Group in rehabilitation of patients into society

(Dubai Health & News) -- The UAE Down Syndrome Association has hailed the role BinSina Pharmacy Group in supporting the rehabilitation of Down patients into society at the association’s annual ceremony held at Shangri-la Hotel in Dubai recently.

Sonia Al Hashimi, Board Chairperson of the Down Syndrome Association thanked BinSina Pharmacy for its relentless support to people suffering from Down syndrome and their rehabilitation into social mainstream.

Parents of Down syndrome children attended the ceremony along with members of the elite, the media and representatives of organizations that contribute to improving the quality of life of Down syndrome patients.

Among the many activities, BinSina Pharmacy assisted in hosting the annual World Down Syndrome Day Walkathon in April 2011.

Ayman Hanbali, Marketing Manager, Al Khayyat Investments, owner of BinSina Pharmacy in the UAE, received the award from H.E. Mohammed bin Sulayem, Chairman of Emirates Automobile and Touring Club and Al Hashimi.

Al Hashimi added: “The private sector should follow the example of BinSina Pharmacy in contributing to combating Down syndrome in the UAE. We are making efforts to highlight how people with Down syndrome can join the mainstream if we deal with them properly and encourage them to integrate into the community. We value the contribution of companies and organizations, especially BinSina Pharmacy, in raising awareness of Down syndrome.”

The UAE Down Syndrome Association provides various services, such as speech and occupational therapy, to improve the lives of children and people with Down syndrome in the UAE. The Association pursues the goal of raising awareness about people with Down syndrome and their value in our society.

Al Hashimi added: “Many of the people with Down syndrome are very creative people, and some are excellent athletes participating in Special Olympics for several years for instance.”

Hanbali said: “We thank UAE Down Syndrome Association for this felicitation. At Al Khayyat Investments, we are committed to corporate social responsibility. We will continue to work closely with the association to increase awareness about the rights of people with Down syndrome. We also plan to work with the community in boosting the skills of Down syndrome persons, integrating them into society and helping them become productive.”

Down syndrome is associated with some impairment of cognitive ability and physical growth and a particular set of facial characteristics. Individuals with Down syndrome tend to have a lower-than-average cognitive ability, ranging from mild to moderate disabilities.

Al Hashimi said: “Our goal for World Down Syndrome Day was to raise awareness of the rights and dignity of people with Down syndrome. With the help of BinSina Pharmacy, we were able to achieve that goal. We truly appreciate BinSina’s public support for our cause.”
