EMRO set to launch new web site on Tuberculosis on 27 February 2003

Those interested in tuberculosis along with the entire Internet community, will be soon acquainted with the easiest and fastest ways of accessing the most up-to-date data, reports and studies related to this very important health issue:  tuberculosis.

On 27 February, the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region will officially launch its new revised website that covers the different aspects of the top priority programme: "Stop Tuberculosis."  The new website can be reached through accessing the following page address:  http://www.emro.who.int/stb/.

Users will find general information on about Tuberculosis, how and why do people contract them, its natural history and the available methods of treatment.  Users will also find current epidemiological data on the burden of the disease in each country of the Eastern Mediterranean  Region , and in the Region as a whole.

The new site provides a very useful service in the form of a Regional bibliography on Tuberculosis, in addition to a list of current and planned events, training activities, conferences and meetings.  Visitors of the new site will find the latest reports, publications and World TB Days advocacy materials as well as a photo album and detailed addresses of the medical officers in charge of the programmes at both EMRO and the country level.

Officials responsible for the website ascertain that the aims of launching the new site are as follows:

To make the site more informative and more user-friendly.

To provide the latest and most updated epidemiological data to all interested users.

To promote training activities and advise on the meetings and conferences held inside and outside the Region.

To facilitate communication among all the parties involved in the field of Tuberculosis.
